#992 Scarecrow 

 
  1. Clean greenware in the usual manner. Drill holes for the light and the springs for the bats. Cut out the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin and scarecrow.
     
  2. Fire to 06.
     
  3. Basecoat the scarecrow white opaque stain.
     
  4. Antique the piece with Brown Translucent. Wipe down with a soft cloth for desired look.
     
  5. Dry brush the ghost with white opaque stain and the face of the scarecrow using camel opaque stain.
     
  6. Spray the piece with super matte spray to seal the antiquing and the translucents will go on more even.
     
  7. Using black opaque stain put in the eye lashes and mouth of the ghost. With a soft brush and chalk rub in the cheeks.
     
  8. Place the following colors referring to picture. NOTE (the paints used are all translucent paints)      Stem- mix yellow and black        Pumpkin- tangerine     Straw-hands feet and hair - topaz         Pants- sapphire                   Trim on coat, scarf and patch on coat-mix ruby and tangerine      Coat and patch on hat-amethyst  Hat- walnut             Grass- evergreen and sunshine (do not mix together on the piece place the colors on and then blend.
     
  9. Stitching on the patches are done with black opaque stain and dry brushed with white opaque stain to highlight detail.
     
  10. Paint the dots on the scarf with lemon peel opaque stain.
     
  11. Spray again with super matte.
Paint the bats as follows:
 
  1. Mix black and charcoal opaque stain about half of each color to basecoat the whole piece.
  2.    
  3. Dry brush white opaque stain on the wings and then lighter on the stomach and face just to show
  4.  detail.
  5.  
  6. Use amethyst translucent on the wings leaving some white showing.
  7.  
  8. Add detail in the wings and put in the eyes and mouth with black opaque stain. 
  9.  
  10. Spray with super matte. 
PAINTS NEEDED
 
Opaque Stain: White, Black, Camel, Lemon Peel, Charcoal (Duncan)
Translucent Stain: Amethyst, Sunshine, Black, Tangerine, Topaz, Evergreen, Ruby, Walnut, Sapphire (Kimple)
Spray: Super Matte
Antiquing: Brown (Duncan)

Bats

 
  1. Clean greenware in the usual manner.
  2. Fire to cone o6.
  3. Mix black and charcoal opaque stain about half of each color to basecoat the whole piece.    
  4. Drybrush white opaque stain on the wings and then lighter on the stomach and face just to show detail.
  5. Use amethyst translucent on the wings leaving some white showing.
  6. Add detail in the wings and put in the eyes and mouth with black opaque stain. 
  7. Spray with super matte. 
PAINTS NEEDED
 
Opaque Stain: White, Black, Charcoal (Duncan)
Translucent Stain: Amethyst (Kimple)
Spray: Super Matte
