       NATIVITY SETS    Small,  Medium,   Large,  Extra Large and Children's

           by Connie Thompson

I - Clean the greenware in the usual manner. Replace any detail lost in the cleaning.

2 - Fire the greenware to cone 06-05.

3 - Using French Vanilla opaque stain, apply a base coat to all the pieces, making sure they are well covered.

4 -Working on one piece at a time, apply a coat of Walnut translucent stain, wiping off with a soft cloth to desired look. Let dry.

5 - Drybrush all the flesh areas with Camel opaque stain, requiring two coats. Put the eyes in with Black opaque stain and the

 

      eyebrows are Medium Brown opaque stain. Use red chalk for the cheek s  and lips.

 

6 - Paint the figures as follows: Keep in mind to put the paint on with a thin coat.

MARY

Her gown is done with White translucent stain, trimmed around the neck and sleeves with Brite Gold opaque stain.

Her hair is Mustard translucent stain; the veil is a mixture of Peach Gio and Mustard translucent stain.

On the front edge of the robe use Walnut translucent stain and Blue translucent stain for the rest of the robe.

JOSEPH

His gown is a mixture of Peach Glo, Mustard and a touch of Walnut translucent stain. The lantern is Black translucent stain

 with White translucent stain for the glass area. Use Walnut translucent stain for his hair, beard and sandals.

 His robe is Rust translucent stain.

BABY JESUS

His gown is done with Blue translucent stain. 13rite Gold opaque stain is used for the trim around the

neck, sleeves and the crown. His hair and the wood area of the manger are Walnut translucent stain.

Mustard translucent stain is used for the straw; wipe with a soft cloth for highlight.

SHEEP

Using White opaque stain, drybrush the bodies of the sheep taking care to go around the faces and the hooves;

they are done with Black translucent stain.

DONKEY

A mixture of Black and Teakwood translucent stain is used for the body. The mans and hooves are

Black translucent stain. Use Mustard translucent stain for the straw.

COW

With White translucent stain lightly highlight the nose and the horns. The body is Mahogany translucent stain

 

with a little Walnut mixed in. The hooves are Black translucent- cent stain. Use Mustard translucent stain for the straw.

 

 

KNEELING KING

Drybrush While opaque stain to the collar of the robs. Brite Gold opaque stain to the crown - detailing with dots around the

 crown with Cranberry opaque stain and the dashes with White opaque stain. Aqua translucent stain is used on the rest of

 the crown and also the gown. His beard and the box are Walnut translucent stain. Red translucent stain is used for the

 robe and the front of the box. White opaque stain for the design area on the box and the edge of the robs.

STANDING KING

Brits Gold opaque stain is used on the crown, button and the box. Blue translucent stain on the upper part of the crown

 

and the collar of the robs. White translucent stain for the rest of the crown, put small dots of Bright Blue opaque stain

 

 around the Brite Gold area. The shirt is Gold translucent stain and the skirt is Orange translucent stain.

 

His shoes are Teakwood>d translucent stain. On the front of the box use Red translucent stain. The robe is a mixture of

 

 Yellow and Black translucent stain to got an avocado color. The trim on the edge of his robe is White opaque stain

.

KING WITH URN

Paint Brits Gold opaque stain to the crown and the Urn. The crown is trimmed with dots of Grape opaque stain with a

White opaque stain dot in the center of each. The Urn is detailed with diamond shapes using Cranben opaque stain and

 White opaque slain dots around the diamonds. His beard and shoes are Black translucent stain. The gown is a mixture of

 White and Purple translucent stain. Black opaque stain for the belt. The rest of the crown is White translucent stain.

His robe is Purple translucent stain with White opaque stain for the trim on the edge of the gown and robs.

 

ANGEL

Drybrush White opaque stain to her gown and wings. Brite Gold opaque stain to the belt, around the neck and

highlight her wings by putting on a thin coat. Her hair is Mustard translucent stain.

A mixture of Blue and While translucent stain to the banner with Black opaque stain for the letters.

SHEPHERD

The sheep is dry brushed with White opaque stain with Black translucent stain for the face and hooves.

His hair is Mustard translucent stain, Green translucent stain for his gown and Blue translucent stain for

the bag. The top edge of the shoo and the shoe are Black translucent stain with

Copper Oak translucent stain in the center. The tie for the robe is Brown translucent stain and the

 robe Is Mahogany translucent stain

.

 

SHEPHERD BOY

Drybrush the sheep and goal with White opaque stain. Black translucent stain is used on the face of the sheep,

the boys pants and the hooves of the goal. Walnut translucent- cent stain for the boys hair, the horns of

the goat and the bag. Blue translucent stain for the boys robe. Copper Oak translucent stain for the

 boys shirt. Mustard translucent stain for the straw.

 

DRUMMER BOY

Red translucent stain on the drum with Brown translucent for the straps on the drum, straps of the shoes

 

and the trim on the robe. Purple translucent stain for the hat, belt and socks.

 

Copper Oak translucent stain for the robe. Black translucent stain for the strap of the drum with

 

 Silver metallic stain on the buckles. Walnut translucent stain for the drum sticks.

 

Teakwood translucent stain on the boys hair.

 

 

CAMELS

Each of the camels bodies are done with a mixture of Walnut, Mustard and a touch of

White translucent stain. The hooves are Black translucent stain. The rains and the straps on the bag

 rolls are painted on with Cordovan opaque stain. The rings and snaps on the reins are

Brits Gold opaque stain. The rest of the colors are as follows:

STANDING CAMEL

Aqua translucent stain is used on the saddle and inside part of the harness with White translucent

 

stain on each side. The dots on the harness are Black opaque stain with Brite Gold opaque stain

 

in the center of each dot. The large bag is Walnut translucent stain with Brown translucent stain

 

for the. design on the bag, the Brown is also used on the ropes around the saddle.

 

The box on the side of the saddle is done with Teakwood translucent stain.

 

Use Red translucent stain on the bed roll, tassels, small bag and the blanket. The design on the blanket is

 

White opaque stain

 

 

LAYING CAMEL WITH BAG

 

 

Orange translucent stain is used on the saddle, nose piece of the harness tassels and the inside part

 

 on the harness with White translucent stain on each side. The seat of the saddle is

 

Gold translucent stain in the center with Teakwood translucent stain on the edge. Add a

 

Black opaque stain line between the Gold and Teakwood with Brite Gold opaque stain dots

 

 around the edge of the seat. Gold translucent stain is also used for the stripes on the saddle.

 

 A mixture of Black and Blue translucent stain is used for the bag with White opaque stain

 

for the trim. The blanket and the bad roll are done with the mixture of Yellow and

 

Black translucent stain for an avocado color with White opaque stain for the trim around the edge of the blanket.

 

 

LAYING CAMEL WITH ROPES

White translucent stain is used on the tassels, section in front of the bed roll and trim around

the saddle. A mixture of White and Purple translucent stain are used for the rest of the saddle.

 The ropes on the saddle are Brown translucent stain. Brite Gold opaque stain for the pot and

the ring around the horn of the saddle. The pot is detailed with Purple translucent stain and

Black opaque stain. Purple translucent stain is used on the blanket, bed roll and the nose piece

of the harness. White opaque stain for the trim around the blanket and the dots on the nose piece.

Spray all the pieces with Porcelain spray.
